Itinerary

Day 1: Start of the Excursion - Santa Marta - El Mamey - Vista Hermosa Cabin

The tour to the Lost City of Teyuna departs from Santa Marta at approximately 8:30 am. The truck or van drives the group of hikers to Mamey, the starting point of the trek, where they have lunch and then begin the trek. The Trek of the day consists of approximately 7.6 km, until reaching the first camp (Vista Hermosa - 450 masl), during the journey you will observe beautiful landscapes. In Vista Hermosa you will rest from the first day of hiking, which is not so demanding. We recommend that you carefully receive instructions from the native guide. You will spend the first night in this camp. After a long day of hiking, Vista Hermosa is the chosen camp to rest and spend the night. We recommend that you pay close attention to the instructions of the indigenous guide, who will inform you about the itinerary for the next day.

Early in the morning, hikers have breakfast and receive instructions from the guide to begin a long and demanding hike of 14.7 km (approximately 10 hours), from the Vista Hermosa Cabin to the Paso Lorenzo Cabin. This indigenous camp is located at a height of 830 meters. Here we will stay in this cabin, which is close to the Ciudad Perdida Tayrona, the sacred city for the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. On our tour we will pass close to the Kogui - Mutanzhi indigenous community, here you can appreciate the harmony that indigenous peoples have with nature and mother earth. At the camp, you can relax and if the guide allows it, you can take a refreshing swim in the Buritaca River. At night the indigenous guide will talk about the lost city of Teyuna and its sacred meaning for the native peoples of the Sierra Nevada.

The long-awaited day has come when you discover the Lost City of Tayrona, a day when you will feel fulfilled when you achieve your goal. Get to the top and see why this place is so special. First thing in the morning, indigenous tour guides lead a 2-kilometer trek from Paso Lorenzo to the Ciudad Perdida Teyuna, climbing more than 1,200 stone steps built by the Tayronas. Teyuna is an archaeological site located at 1200 meters above sea level. Here, the indigenous guide carries out spiritual activities with the group and later leads a tour of more than 3 hours in which the tourists observe the Tayrona architecture and take photographs of the landscape. Around 11:00 AM, we return to Paso Lorenzo camp for lunch and immediately pack our bags and begin the 9.6 km (5 hour) trek back to Wiwa camp, where you will spend the night.

First thing in the morning, they get up and continue their 12.7 km journey back to the starting point. It takes about an hour to get back to the starting point. Along the way down, you'll find photo-worthy spots, rivers for a quick dip, and views missed on the way up. This trip to Teyuna is a fascinating experience that will definitely mark your life forever.
