FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions from Our Customers

Where to Eat Well in Tayrona Park?

We are one of the best restaurants inside the Tayrona Park to taste the delicacies of the Colombian Caribbean, if you do not know where to eat in the Tayrona, come to Yachay will be the best decision, as we use fresh vegetables and seasonal foods to reduce the ecological impact.

Of course, but first of all you must know that there are few options to acquire fresh food with high quality inside the Tayrona National Park, since it is a jungle area and secluded from the city of Santa Marta. Yachay Restaurant is located inside our Eco Hotel Yachay Tayrona.

It is not mandatory to make a reservation in advance to eat in our restaurant. Yachay is open to both hotel guests and external visitors every day. You can usually arrive without a reservation and find a table, especially in low season.

However, it is recommended to make a reservation (by phone or WhatsApp) during high season or if you are traveling in a group, to guarantee availability. Booking in advance gives you peace of mind that your space is guaranteed, although the restaurant manages sufficient capacity and usually accommodates spontaneous visitors when possible.

Our menu is very varied, with dishes for all tastes. You will find pasta, rice, salads, tropical fruits and typical appetizers. It is worth mentioning that they do have vegan food, all made with local and fresh ingredients.

For example, the menu features traditional Caribbean dishes such as egg arepas, hogao, plantains, coconut rice, etc., but also international preparations with a local touch, such as a pesto pasta with sautéed vegetables, falafel with guacamole, or the “Yachay Burger” of artisanal beef. Seasonal fruit salads and natural juices are popular, reflecting the abundance of the region.

In Yachay Tayrona you can pay in cash (Colombian pesos) or with credit or debit cards without any inconvenience. The most common cards are: Visa, Mastercard and even American Express are accepted at the ecohotel/restaurant.

Payment by credit card is subject to connectivity, which, although available (the establishment has WiFi), can sometimes be unstable due to its location in the middle of nature. Therefore, it is recommended to carry enough cash in Colombian pesos as a backup, especially for large amounts or in case the network fails momentarily.

It is unusual for dollars or other foreign currencies to be accepted directly at the restaurant, so it is best to exchange your foreign currency into Colombian pesos before your visit.

You won’t find ATMs inside Tayrona Park either, so carry the necessary cash for park entrance, restaurant consumption and any other expenses before entering the park.

Despite being in a jungle area and secluded from the city, access to our restaurant is quite friendly to most visitors. The path from the park entrance to the restaurant is mostly flat and well marked, with compact dirt ground and stone sections, so it does not require long strenuous walks (it is 20 minutes).

It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes (tennis or light shoes) since you will be walking on a nature trail, and cool clothing appropriate for the humid tropical climate (light material, long sleeves preferably to protect against insects, and a hat or cap for the sun). It is also a good idea to apply insect repellent and sunscreen, as you will be in the middle of nature.

Customer service in our Yachay Restaurant is one of the highlights. Numerous visitors praise the friendliness and warmth of our staff, who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. In fact, on TripAdvisor many comment that “the staff is particularly friendly and always willing to help”.

It should be noted that, due to the nature of the place, service can be more leisurely than would be expected in the city. Some visitors have noted delays in the delivery of dishes, especially when the restaurant is full. This is attributed to the kitchen being small and the kitchen/wait staff being limited (they can’t have a huge staff in the middle of the park).

The preparation is handmade and fresh, which guarantees freshness, but it may take longer. Our advice: be patient and go with time, enjoy the natural surroundings while you wait. Most customers, even those who experienced a wait, agree that the food is worth it and that the staff goes out of their way, even if they are running late.

In terms of languages, our staff at Yachay Tayrona speaks mainly Spanish, but several team members speak English well enough to cater to international tourists. In fact, it is a place frequented by both Colombians and foreigners, and there is usually no language barrier in basic service (taking orders, describing simple dishes, etc.).

  • Patacones criollos de plátano con hogao y queso costeño.
  • Fish tartare, served with plantain chips.

  • Shrimp ceviche with plantain chips.

The Yachay Tayrona restaurant is suitable for children. Many families with young children frequently visit our establishment and have had excellent experiences, for example, one traveler tells TripAdvisor that she went with her 3 year old daughter and “we had an amazing time; the staff was very caring” with the child.

There are no particular dangers for minors in the immediate area of the restaurant; in fact, the environment is quiet and spacious, with hammocks and areas where children can be within sight of parents without risk.
